A Lake District fell runner was airlifted after tripping and hurting their ankle.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out yesterday, Saturday August 9, at around 1.25pm to Goat’s Hawse.
The team said: “Cumbria police asked us to help, and we despatched two Land Rovers to Bursting Stone Quarry.
“The team then ascended the Old Man of Coniston and went down the other side to the casualty’s location. He was assessed, the leg splinted and then he was put onto our stretcher.
“Because of the length of the carry-off, we had initially asked for helicopter assistance, and Coastguard Rescue 936 from Caernarfon was tasked to help us.
“It arrived and landed on the Hawse, and we carried the casualty down to it.
“It then flew him to Kirkbride Airfield, an operating base that the Coastguard uses in summer, for land ambulance transfer to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.”
