Millom continued their fine start to the season with a 1-0 win at home to Rossendale.
Last season’s Division One champions are adapting well to life in the Premier Division and after three games sit fourth in the table.
Injuries to two goalkeepers meant manager Dave Allan was going to have to blood 16-year-old Brodie Shaw.
But because it would affect the youngsters registration for the reserves, Allan had to look elsewhere and signed Haverigg keeper Russell Lowe to help them out for the one game.
The game itself was something of a battle with limited chances for either side and Lowe, in particular, didn’t have a lot to trouble him.
The only goal came on 44 minutes when Ben McDonald reacted quickest to a ball into the box before shooting home.
It was the third goal in as many matches for McDonald who scored 24 last season, all from open play.
Millom, who also won 1-0 at Cleator Moor Celtic, have another Cumbrian derby on Tuesday when they host Whitehaven.
You can listen to Dave Allan’s views on the game below:
Whitehaven, meanwhile, suffered their second away defeat when they went under 4-1 at Haslingden St Mary’s.
They had gone in at half-time 2-0 behind with St Mary’s taking the lead in the 32nd minute through Charlie Ridge and conceding a second on the stroke of half-time from Michael White.
It didn’t help the cause when Alex Grice added a third five minutes after the re-start, although Andrew Sinclair did raise hopes of a fightback when he netted on the hour.
A fourth home goal from Ridge after 72 minutes confirmed the points were St Mary’s.
Cleator Moor Celtic put up a good effort against early League leaders Eagley, beaten by a 92nd minute winner.
They had fallen behind after 20 minutes to a goal by Finlay Stafford but hit back quickly as Ellis Trotter levelled two minutes later.
It stayed that way until the second minute of time added on when Cole Collins grabbed the winner.
Milnthorpe Corinthians remain bottom but showed more resolve in defence as they went down 3-2 at Lostock St. Gerard’s.
They had conceded 12 goals in their first two games but this time led for over an hour.
Dan Hallam gave them the lead after just three minutes and it wasn’t until the 64th minute that Reece Thompson put the hosts level.
Two goals inside four minutes by Alex Caunce (73) and Dale Bury (77) turned the game on it’s head, before Tom Shaw added Corinthians’ second in the second minute of time added on.
This is Cleator Moor Celtic’s manager Gareth Agnew’s view:
