Workington Comets team boss James Denham has praised his side after a busy weekend with two matches in two days.
The Comets, sponsored by GT Tyres, ran Glasgow Tigers to a last heat decider at Ashfield on Friday and then came with a late surge to beat Oxford at Northside on Saturday.
Denham said: “I’m really proud of the lads this weekend. On Friday we went toe-to-toe with one of the strongest sides in the league. Glasgow have a top-quality heat-leader trio, and yet we kept them under pressure right until the last race.
“We fell just short, but that kind of performance away from home gives us belief that we can turn the tables in the return home fixture in two weeks and grab the aggregate point. The effort and determination from every rider was there for all to see, and that’s exactly the foundation we want to build on.
“On Saturday we had to dig deep after a slow start and the way the boys responded was first-class.
“Once we levelled the scores, we never looked back, and the heat advantages in the closing stages were a testament to our efforts all weekend.
“Antti, Jacob, and Jye really stepped up and it was great to see everyone contributing to the victory. Troy never stopped trying despite a number of mechanical issues in both meetings and he will go to the tuners this week to hopefully get those issues ironed out.
“We have a very busy weekend coming up with three fixtures on the bounce and we need to be bagging points in all of those ideally if we are to keep our playoff hopes alive.”
The Comets travel to Edinburgh on Friday; host the return on Saturday and then travel to Oxford on Sunday.
