Monday evening saw a return to Kelton Fell for the fourth time this season where 44 hounds turned out for the four grade meeting.

Only 11 were entered into the opening race for the seniors with Darren and Julie McMaster and Anthony Skelton’s Silver Dream sent off as the odds on favourite.

Once away Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s I Am It (currently trained by Gary and Misha Byers) was off best with James and Ava McClellan’s Baroness Ava for company.

Climbing up the fell Brian and Erin Rowlandson and the late Billy Birkett’s Blue Striker was now leading from Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler’s Foxparke Honk Honk and Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler and Darren Clark’s Foxparke Rita’s Rose.

Going past the field Foxparke Honk Honk was now leading from kennel mate Foxparke Rita’s Rose, Baroness Ava, as well as another Foxparke kennel mate Fairlady and Blue Striker.

Dropping into Potters Park Silver Dream had taken over just in front of Baroness Ava, Blue Striker and Foxparke Honk Honk.

On the turn in for home coming out of the bottoms and heading to the final road crossing it was the same order.

Over the road and climbing up the steep hill finish Silver Dream and Baroness Ava had a great race to the line with neither hound wanting to give up.

But in the end the reigning champion got up to claim the win by a head over Baroness Ava and fast finishing Foxparke Fairlady.

The pups had ten entries and climbing up the fell Martin and Molly Burrow, Ian Freyne, Ger and Jennifer Kenneally’s Thorn Daisy was at the front with Nicola McMaster and Barbara Telford’s Rodney Ranger as well as Tony, Marlene, Connor and Carter Irving and Gary Woodend’s Bewley for company.

Dropping down the fell and going past the field Thorn Daisy was still leading from Bewley and Stephen Riley and Isla Hetherington’s Fable.

When they were dropping into Potters Park, Thorn Daisy was still leading but Rodney Ranger and Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier, Brooke Butler and Darren Clark’s Foxparke Jubilee’s Jackpot were there as well.

Coming out of the bottoms and heading for the final road crossing three had pulled away – Thorn Daisy and Rodney Ranger but now with Cinderella.

Once over the final road crossing and heading for home up the steep hill it ended in another terrific race with Thorn Daisy just managing to beat her brother (Sarah Jane/Cuckoo Lane) Rodney Ranger with Cinderella in third.

The Open Maidens had a slip of 18 and once away Graham Reid’s Money Talks led them away with Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson’s Nellie’s Pride and Tanya Satterthwaite’s Paddy The Plasterer.

Going past the field Money Talks was still leading but now from Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler’s Foxparke Dealer, Heartside and Paddy The Plasterer.

Heading down into Potters Park Money Talks was still leading from Foxparke Dealer and Heartside.

Coming out of the bottoms and heading for the final road crossing Money Talks had slightly pulled away but as they started the climb to the line Nicola McMaster and Sadie Wilson’s Sarah Jane and her daughter Andrew Bullman and Laura Steele’s Swifty had joined him at the front and after a good run to the line Sarah Jane claimed the win over her two pups Swifty and Joseph Abram and Claire Crone’s Silver Girl.

Heartside finished fourth with Money Talks fifth and the final ticket went to Raymond and Glenis Farren’s Miss Becky.

The final race of the night was the veterans with only five runners.

Andy and Alan Horn and Simon Walker’s Overwater Louie led them away nicely ahead of Colin Satterthwaite’s Thorn Pop and Willie and Craig Mark and Billy Lindsay’s Summer Spirit.

Willie Mark and Summer Spirit

Going past the field Thorn Pop had taken over the lead and had a slight advantage on Overwater Louie and Tanya Satterthwaite’s Swamp Fox. Dropping into Potters Park the trio were still leading away nicely but had been joined by Summer Spirit.

Coming out of the bottoms and heading for the final road crossing Thorn Pop had pulled away from Summer Spirit and Swamp Fox.

But coming up the steep hill to the line Summer Spirit finished well to win by a length from Thorn Pop with Swamp Fox in third.

Overwater Louie finished in fourth and the final ticket went to Denis Peare and Jackie Gill’s Miterdale Duchess.
