Three matches into the new season and Barrow are still searching for their first goal.
After two League Two defeats by 1-0 and 2-0 they went down 1-0 last night at home to Preston North End.
But it took a bizarre own goal to give the Championship side the narrowest of victories.
It came midway through the second half when defender Charlie Raglan leapt to head a long ball but only managed to direct it past his goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
North End had been far from impressive, with seven changes from the side which drew at QPR on Saturday.
In general terms Barrow defended well and there were limited opportunities for the visitors.
Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine brought the best out of home keeper Ben Winterbottom but that was the one moment of alarm.
The Bluebirds in fact were close to grabbing the lead themselves when Connor Mahoney tried his luck from long range which landed just on the roof of the net with goalkeeper Jack Walton forced to dash back frantically.
The tie was settled when Preston skipper Ben Whiteman tried to find substitute Michael Smith but Raglan got there first only to head past the onrushing Winterbottom.
Tom Barkhuizen almost got Barrow level late on but struck the post.
