A ‘large number’ of people have been fined for incorrectly parking at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary – and they will get refunds.
North Cumbria Integrate Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said people parking between July 26 and August 4 were incorrectly sent a letter saying they did not pay for parking.
The car parks at the site are managed by Parkmaven on behalf of the trust.
It has apologised for any distress caused and said it was due to a technical communication fault.
The trust said: “This has understandably caused stress for those who have been incorrectly sent a parking charge notice.
“We have had assurance from Parkmaven that all of these charges will be cancelled and anyone who has mistakenly paid the PCN will be fully reimbursed.
“Parkmaven has stated the issue has now been resolved and have taken steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
People who incorrectly received a notice between July 26 and August 4 should not appeal, as the charge will be cancelled automatically and they will receive a letter of confirmation.
People who have already appealed need not take any further action.
Parkmaven said: “We would like to sincerely apologise for a recent error in issuing parking charge notices (PCNs) due to a technical communication fault.
“This has affected many customers that have paid via the terminal between July 26 and August 4.
“At Parkmaven, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of compliance and customer service. We are reviewing our processes and implementing additional safeguards to ensure this does not happen again.
“We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused and thank you for your understanding.”
