Volunteers arrived to help set up Penrith parkrun this morning and you can tell that the football season has begun again as litter pickers collected two large bags of waste from Frenchfield.
Pleas to the footballers to take their litter home with them or put it in a bin clearly fall on deaf ears!
parkrunners are encouraged to share lifts, walk, run or bicycle to their parkruns to mitigate their environmental impact and Eden Runner, Christel Bertrand, who is training for the Blencathra marathon, and raising funds for Cancer Research, takes this seriously, arriving on her special Brompton bike.
After yesterday’s gridlock around and through Penrith, this is definitely a smart move!
Parkrun loves families and the Ryde family beautifully capture this.
Rebecca and Alistair Ryde from Glasgow were staying with parents in Penrith and came to Frenchfield with their nieces, Katie, 10 and Elisa, six. Katie and Elisa are regular parkrunners in Worsley, where they live. They are staying with their grandparents and clearly a trip to Penrith parkrun with their uncle and aunt, was a highlight of their visit.

We love to welcome tourists at parkrun and today we were joined by Elinor Cordiner, a member of the exotically named Pershore Plum Plodders, and her (reluctant!) husband, Neil.
Just over a year ago, Eden Runner and regular Penrith parkrunner, Aaron Baglee, completed parkrun before collapsing.
Aaron would have died had there not been a defibrillator to hand, and more importantly, someone who knew how to operate it.
As a result, the North West Ambulance Service is running a session in defib training after parkrun on Saturday September 6 at about 10.15am.

This is free and anyone who would like to join the session is welcome. Aaron was busy canvassing people to sign up.
If you are interested, please contact Penrith Parkrun – [email protected]. You never know when you might be called upon to save a life.
As ever, we celebrate special milestones and today saw Eden Runners Heather Heron and Lindsay Harrod complete 250 and 350 runs respectively.

Zac Tyson completed 200 runs on what was a big weekend for the Grinbergs family.
All are keen parkrunners and Zac’s aunt, Susie Pattinson got a special 0th birthday shout out!

Also celebrating was popular headmaster of Lazonby School, Andrew Davies, known as Mr D. He has clocked up 100 parkruns. Mr D was less than a minute off his PB which was very impressive, given that he has run two half marathons this week!
If you are reading this and thinking how amazing parkrun and all these achievements are and you would like to be part of this but don’t know where to start, then Ready2Run are putting on a Couch to 5K training course.
It will run over 10 weeks from Monday September 8, 7pm at Frenchfield. You will receive encouragement and support to take up running. All you need is a pair of trainers and £10! Why not give it a go and find out just how inclusive and supportive the running community is. You won’t regret it.
Thanks as ever to all the volunteers without whom Penrith parkrun couldn’t happen. A full list of the volunteers and the participants and results can be found at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/penrith/results/latestresults/
