Two adults and a child had to be rescued in the early hours of this morning after their yacht ran aground off the west coast.
Maryport Rescue said volunteers were called at around 2.55am today, Wednesday August 20.
The 27ft yacht had run aground near the entrance of Maryport Harbour.
Maryport Rescue said it launched its inshore lifeboat, but due to very little water and an ebbing tide, it was impossible to come alongside the vessel.
Maryport Rescue said: “Plan B was then carried out with two lifeboat crew entering the water to assess the casualties.
“Also arriving on scene was Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team who made their way to assist in bringing the casualties off from the shoreside.”
The three people were safely carried ashore and the yacht is now at anchor on this morning’s tide.
