It’s a start, as Workington collected their first point at the fifth attempt with a 1-1 draw against Ashton United.
There was no doubt, too, that Reds deserved to share the spoils in a closely fought contest.
A twice taken penalty by Steven Rigg had given the hosts a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time.

Jordam Eastham saved the first attempt but referee Sam Ross ruled there had been encroachment and ordered a re-take.
This time Rigg sent Eastham the wrong way for only Workington’s second goal of the season.
The equaliser came on 70 minutes when Workington failed to clear and substitute Luca Navarro, who had only been on the field three minutes, scored with an angled low shot from just inside the area which arrowed into the bottom corner.
Really, though, it was a game of few real opportunities and neither keeper was seriously disturbed during the 90 minutes.
The visitors did get the ball in the net in the first-half. A shot from Bradley Taylor had Alex Mitchell at full stretch to get a hand to it and although Darius Osei was on hand to fire home the flag was raised for offside.

Workington moved the ball quicker and with more purpose than their visitors in the first half particularly and had been full value for their interval lead.
Indeed the game followed the pattern of the previous two hme games. Reds were the better side in the first half but the opposition came more into at as the game progressed.
Workington, though, should have had the opportunity to win it in the second-half when they were denied a second penalty.
Luke Ellis showed good footwork as he cut in along the by-line and went down just inside the box when he was clearly clipped.

It looked a clearer penalty than the one that was awarded but the referee said he had been unsighted and couldn’t give it.
Seventeen-year-old full-back Hayden Atkinson, on loan from Carlisle United, stood out again with some solid defending and surging runs forward.
He looked to have created an opening late on but a solid block by Sean Newton kept him and the home side at bay.
The Reds should take a lot of encouragement from this game going into Monday’s clash at The Giant Axe against Lancaster City.
Ellis, who went off with a niggle, should be fit but the longer absentees Will McGladdery and Tom Stephenson won’t be ready to return until next Saturday.
