Kendal Town are up to third in the table after their 2-1 home win in Northern League Division One.
The encouraging thing, too, is that against a good Whickham side they weren’t at their best but still got the job done.
They follow up on Tuesday night with another league game against Horden and then the much-anticipated FA Cup tie against Dunston at Parkside Road on Saturday.
With several absentees Matt Flynn’s side had to work hard for their victory over Whickham.
They got a flying start with a goal on five minutes from Jamie Looker, who is popping in goals for fun at the moment.
Whickham were soon level with a goal from Kyle Cockburn and it was still 1-1 at the break.
The points were secured in the 69th minute with a penalty from Tom Kilifin.
