A new principal has been appointed to lead a South Cumbrian college.
Jason Turton has been named as the new principal and CEO of Kendal College, following the retirement of Kelvin Nash earlier this year.
He was previously deputy principal (curriculum and quality) at Barking & Dagenham College.
The college, which was established in 1971, said: “His deep understanding of education as a transformative force will play a key role in strengthening Kendal College’s position as a leader in delivering high-quality, relevant, and socially responsible learning.
“Under Jason’s leadership, the college aims to deepen its roots in the local community while expanding its influence regionally and nationally.
“He will champion initiatives that connect learning directly to industry needs, use cutting-edge facilities and technologies, and inspire both staff and students to push boundaries and reimagine possibilities.
“Sustainability, inclusivity, and social responsibility will remain integral to the college’s approach, ensuring its impact reaches far beyond the classroom.”
Mr Turton said: “Kendal College is already a vital and respected part of the region, with a proud history and a clear mission.
“My focus will be on building on these strengths – enhancing our partnerships, embracing innovation, and ensuring every learner leaves with the skills, values, and self-belief to make a real difference in their chosen path.”
Professor Rob Trimble, chair of governors, added: “Following an extensive national search and a field of exceptionally strong candidates, Jason stood out as the leader who could truly take Kendal College to the next stage of its journey.
“His vision, expertise, and ability to connect strategy with community impact make him the ideal person to lead our college into the future.”
