Cumbrian firefighters helped tackle a massive wildfire in North Yorkshire.
The blaze – which at its peak covered around 10sq miles of Langdale Moor – started over two weeks ago on August 11.
The North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said that the fire was now contained but work to extinguish it was still ongoing.
It said: “12 appliances and crews worked through the night. Active firefighting carries on in hotspot areas and fire breaks continue to be dug to support the containment. We are closely monitoring any changes to the weather position.”
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said it had sent specialist firefighters, equipment and a Unimog off-road vehicle to support their colleagues.
The service said: “This deployment is part of a national arrangement to support the great work being done by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service in dealing with this ongoing fire.
“That we were able to mobilise quickly to support North Yorkshire demonstrates that the huge amount of planning and training that goes into preparing such arrangements is working effectively.”
