It’s a busy week of fixtures in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League with seven games to be completed by Saturday teatime.

The first was staged at Gillfoot last night where a tight, hard-fought game in Division One between Egremont A and Aspatria went the way of the visitors 22-18.

They had established a 16-6 advantage at half-time and although Egremont closed the gap they couldn’t turn things around.

Man of the match for Egremont, prop Dillon Scott scored two tries while winger Cian Sharpe also crossed.

Second row forward Kaiden Block put over three goals.

Centre Kris Beattie (2), stand-off Ben Tootill and full-back Ellis Holliday scored the Aspatria tries with their man of the match, scrum-half Kieran Robinson kicking three goals.

Aspatria will contest the end-of-season top-four play-offs with Egremont A most likely to join them alongside League winners Kells A and Hensingham A.

Scheduled for tonight are Kells A v Distington A while on Friday it’s Maryport A v Egremont A and Distington A v Hensingham A.

Saturday showcases the semi-finals of the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup – Maryport v Flimby and Seaton v Kells A.

There’s also a Premier Division game on Saturday – Lowca v Glasson.
