A warning has been issued after men were spotted flagging down drivers on a slip road on the M6.
South Lakes Police said three men were claiming to have run out of fuel and were offering jewellery in exchange for cash at Junction 37.
They were with a black vehicle with foreign plates today, Wednesday September 3.
South Lakes Police added: “We are concerned that this is likely to be fraudulent activity with any jewellery exchanged likely to be fake or low value as this has happened in other parts of the country.
“The area around Junction 37 has been checked several times. A similar vehicle was located close to Junction 36 with the occupants detained and stop searched.”
People are asked to report further suspicious activity via 101.
