Windscale travelled to Brandon last night to complete three successive away fixtures and with them the full quota of the nine points available.
It was not one of the Atoms better performances with Brandon on top most of the first half but the Atoms came away with a 3-0 win.
The Atoms quality in possession was lacking in this fixture but importantly they continued to display similar tenacity levels from their previous fixtures.
This was ably displayed with Ben Mahaffy receiving a caution for a robust challenge with 15 minutes on the watch.
Atoms keeper Levi McAdam, in particular, produced a competent performance with his composure and solid handling of the ball when Brandon were exerting pressure on the visitors goal.
Despite all their efforts, the hosts were unable to pierce the Windscale defensive line and the game remained scoreless at the break.
The Atoms took the lead with a goal that turned the game in their favour.
In the 50th minute Jack Wordsworth pounced on a loose pass leaving him one on one with Brandon keeper Aiden Gill. He then had no hesitation in bending the ball into the top corner.
Windscale began to exert their influence on the game to dictate play for the rest of the contest.
They had one worrying moment when Ryan Fitzwilliam was unceremoniously bundled off the ball with a push in the back.
The match official inexplicably allowed play to continue and it was McAdam, the Atoms Man of the Match, who saved the referee’s blushes when he pulled off a great save to keep the lead intact.
Windscale doubled their advantage in the 71st minute. Lewis Selkirk, playing his first full 90 minutes since his sojourn in the sun, deposited the ball beyond Gill into the back of the Brandon net.
The game was virtually over in the 78th minute when Rob Davidson notched the Atoms’ third goal.
Matty Pierce picked out Davidson’s run and sent him away with a peach of a pass allowing him to slot the ball beyond Gill.
This was by no means a comfortable 3-0 victory as Brandon gave the Atoms some worrying moments, particularly in the first 45 minutes.
The one wayward pass early in the second period which culminated in the Wordsworth goal was the piece of good fortune their hard work deserved.
The victory enabled them to amass 12 points from their last four fixtures moving them up to 6th position in the table.
They have another intriguing fixture on Saturday, hosting South Moor at the Falcon Complex, the game kicking off at 2pm.
