West Cumbrian speedway star Dan Bewley is looking for a big finish to this year’s Grand Prix series.

It’s the finale in Vojens next Saturday and the Maryport racer wants to finish in style.

He is currently lying third in the Grand Prix standings but admits he’s not really thinking about a podium finish to the series.

He is focused on delivering one last big performance.

Bewley, 26, has admitted he doesn’t really care about the bronze medal.

He said: “To be honest, I am just taking it day by day and want to go the same as last Saturday in Vojens. I just want to have a solid night, do my best and just try and be consistent.

“I got off to a slow start in Wroclaw. But I finished strong at the end of the night. I am looking at Vojens as another round. I want to have a solid one – that’s the plan and if all goes to plan, the points will be decent anyway. I just want to have a good night.

“When you look back one day, you would be happier with third than fourth. At the moment, I am just trying to do the best I can and go about my job. I’ll take it race by race. And I do have a couple of bonuses if I get on the podium.”

The Danish Grand Prix in Vojens provides a thrilling conclusion to this season’s series with Bewley’s Belle Vue team-mate Brady Kurtz putting pressure on reigning champion Bartosz Zmarzlik to lift the coveted title.

Sweden’s Fredrik Lindgren started the day third in the championship and nine points ahead of Bewley.

But the former Workington Comets rider won the sprint race to collect four points, before adding 16 in the main event to leave his Polish home track five clear of the current world number three.

Bewley said: “Obviously I wanted to be a bit closer to the fight with these boys (top two Zmarzlik and Kurtz). It was just a couple of rounds that have cost me.

“On the first night in Manchester, I didn’t really make a start, even though I won. On the second night, I missed every single one.

“You can’t really do that too much if you want to fight with anyone in the GPs. I just want to be more consistent from the start – that’s a big one. Then I can put myself in a position where I can be in the fight.”
