Workington Speedway and the Cartmell family have announced the first team to line up for Jay’s memorial meeting.
The meeting will be staged at the GT Tyres Arena, Northside, on Saturday, September 20 at 3pm.
It is a tribute to Jay, who died during an incident in Warcop last October.
Jay, of Frizington, was a speedway fan, and the event will feature a four-team tournament-style meeting, bringing riders, fans, family, and friends together.
Tapes are set to rise at 3pm.
All teams will be named after characters in Jay’s favourite video game, Fortnite.
The first team is the Midas Meteors.
The Midas Meteors will feature:
- Jacob Hook (Sponsored by Leigha & James) – The 2025 GT Tyres Comet flying reserve has impressed throughout the season and will lead the charge for the Meteors.
- Tate Zischke (Sponsored by Beef) – The promising young Australian rider will line up alongside his housemate Hook.
- Dayle Wood (Sponsored by Clemmy Mossop) – The Berwick reserve joins the Meteors, completing an all-Australian team.
- Luke Killeen (Sponsored by Tracey Benson) – Representing Oxford, Killeen has made significant progress this year, riding in the Championship with the Cheetahs and in the Premiership with the Spires.
- Reserve: Jack Franklin (Sponsored by Les & Michelle Cartmell) – At the very start of his speedway journey, Franklin will have the opportunity to showcase his potential in front of an expected large crowd.
A Comets spokesman said: “We and the Cartmell family would like to thank all the sponsors whose support has made this special meeting possible.”
