Carlisle City manager Dan Kirkup is happy that the new Northern League season will start with a Cumbrian derby.
Kendal Town visit Gillford Park for the first game of the new season and a big crowd is assured.
“I know they are bringing a good few and we should have extra support in too because Carlisle United are away,” said Kirkup.
City will have one or two absentees. Tom Mahone is awaiting an operation while City’s management isn’t prepared to risk two or three others who have niggles at the moment.
“We have a busy start to the season and will be playing Saturday/Tuesday for the first few weeks and we have a decent squad so don’t want to risk anybody who isn’t completely fi,” said the city manager.
Kirkup has a good working relationship with the Kendal manager Matt Flynn but admits he probably knows the least about the Mintcakes than any other team in the league.
