Kendal Town hope they have signed another James Bailey – as well as his twin brother – ahead of the new season.
The Mintcakes, who start with a Cumbrian derby at Carlisle City, have signed striker Joe Wilkinson.
Like Bailey before him, Wilkinson comes from the lower reaches of the Wwest Lancashire League where he scored 34 goals for Carnforth Rangers last season.
Although regarded as young and raw, Wilkinson has attributes that manager Matt Flynn likes and thinks he can improve on him.
Meanwhile James Bailey’s twin brother Matt has signed for the Mintcakes after regular choice Chris Cheetham had decided to leave the club.
Bailey has played in goal during the pre-season games and has now been signed on Northern League forms. He was previously with Holker Old Boys.
In other news before the trip to Gillford Park, Kendal have appointed Matty Clarke as their new vice-captain with Bailey Kenny continuing as skipper.
Also, Mike Thornley has been appointed the new manager of Kendal’s Under-23s side ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Thornley had previously done an excellent job with the Under-18’s and will continue this alongside his new role.
Chairman Michael O’Neill, said: “Mike is the right man to move the project forward and provide us with continuity. He already has a strong working relationship with Matt Flynn, which is crucial when progressing players from our youth teams into the first team.”
First team boss Matt Flynn said: “I’m pleased for Mike to be taking over the Under-23s, as well as continuing his work with the Under-18s.
“I’m sure Mike will carry on the excellent work of his predecessor. I hope he can develop young local talent that will help drive the club forward.”
