Road closure as work to start on new pavement for Bootle

Work is set to start on a new pavement next to a new Bootle housing complex.

Cumberland Council said work would start on the C4027, next to the Wellbank development, on September 2 and is expected to last for around six weeks, subject to weather and site conditions.

The work will be carried out under a full road closure. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A595 and Newbiggin.

Residents and road users are asked to follow this official diversion and avoid the shorter route through Swallowhurst, as the narrow roads may quickly become congested.

However, the diversion route may become impassable at certain times due to tidal conditions.

If that happened, the authority said, work will be temporarily paused and the closed road will be reopened where possible to allow access.

The work will take place Monday to Friday, between 8am and 4pm, with the road reopening outside of these hours.

Access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists.
