Penrith’s Frenchfield will stage the Veterans County Trophy final tomorrow night for the second consecutive season.
Carlisle City take on St Benedict’s, which means a changing of the guard in veterans football.
After eight consecutive years of Harraby Catholic Club dominance in the competition there will be a new name on the trophy.
Carlisle City will be playing in their third Veterans County Trophy final but for St Benedict’s it’s their first appearance in the final.
The last time the competition wasn’t won by Harraby Catholic Club was 2014, when Frizington Whitestar beat Grasslot Club 4-1.
The competition is regionalised into north/east and west sections until the quarter final stage, with tomorrow’s final producing a team from the east of the county to meet a team from the west of the county for the second consecutive season.
Both teams have had strong seasons in the Cumbria Veterans League’s north/east and west divisions respectively.
Carlisle City secured a fourth place finish in the 12 team north/east division, with St Benedict’s narrowly missing out on the west division title to Seaton FC.
This will be City’s third Veterans County Trophy final, having missed out to Harraby Catholic Club in 2017, and most recently in 2022.
City will be hoping it will be third time lucky as they look to add the County Cup crown to the north/east league title they secured in 2024!
Entry into the ground is free, but donations are encouraged to Cumberland FA’s charity partner Pancreatic Cancer UK via collection buckets on the ground or online.
Referee Stephen Donald takes charge of the final and will be assisted by Colin Varty and Ben McDermott, with Les Nordon as fourth official.
