Former Barrow boss Phil Brown is back in management with National North club Peterborough Sports.
Joint-managers Michael Gash and Luke Steele left their roles earlier this week by mutual agreement.
Brown, 66, was in charge at Holker Street in 2022, joining on a short team contract in March.
At the time the Bluebirds were just six points clear of the relegation zone with the team lying 21st in League Two.
He started his spell in charge with three successive defeats, but seven points from their next three matches, including a 4–0 win against league leaders Forest Green Rovers saw Barrow safe from the drop.
However negotiations between the club and Brown, about taking the role on a permanent basis were unsuccessful and he left the club.
He was out of football management until January 2024 when he was appointed manager of National League bottom club Kidderminster Harriers on a contract until the end of the season.
Despite winning six of his first eight matches in charge, he was ultimately unable to prevent the club being relegated.
Following the final match of the season, Brown and his assistant Neil McDonald both signed new two-year contracts.
Seeking an immediate return to the National League, Brown was twice named National League North manager of the month as the Harriers stayed in the hunt for automatic promotion.
However, as they failed to achieve a return to the National League Brown was sacked in May and his job with Peterborough Sports is his first since then.
Brown, who played over 650 League games for Hartlepool, Halifax, Bolton and Blackpool has also managed at various levels including Bolton, Derby, Preston, Southend and Swindon.
But he’s probably best remembered for his time in the Premier League with Hull City, where he famously guided the club to promotion in 2008 and kept them in the top flight the following season.
Brown’s first match in charge will be a high-profile FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Hornchurch, the current unbeaten leaders of the National League South.
Despite being one of the smallest clubs in National League North, Peterborough Sports have made clear their intentions to compete and progress.
In a statement released by the club, tribute was paid to outgoing managers Steele and Gash, thanking them for their dedication, passion, and professionalism.
The statement added: “Phil is a name that commands respect across the football world. His experience and ability to develop players are exactly what this club needs as we enter our next phase.”
