A Lake District mountain rescue team has apologised for its ‘inappropriate’ training.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team drew criticism for a recent training session at Coomb Woods in Armathwaite.
The volunteer team said part of the session included a crag rescue scenario, involving a vertical stretcher recovery near Barnacle Bill.
It said: “In hindsight we recognise that this was a poor choice of training area.
“We recognise the sensitive, friable nature of the crags at Armathwaite, particularly in damp conditions.
“Many of the team are also climbers and fully appreciate the concerns raised by the climbing community about damage we may have inadvertently caused.
“We are sorry, we got it wrong.”
