An award-winning comedian – who tried his hand at the World Gurning Championships – will release a documentary about his efforts in the run-up to Egremont Crab Fair.
Tom Little, from Flimby, took part in the 2023 competition and was followed by a film crew. The result is Tom Little Goes Gurning, which will be released on YouTube on Friday.
Feeling like a loser, and wanting to be a winner – Tom set out to find something – anything – he could win.
So when he came across a flier for the World Gurning Championships at the annual Egremont Crab Fair, he jumped at the chance to put his facial muscles to work and easily become the World’s Greatest Gurner.
But, as he found out, it wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
Through learning about the history of the crab fair, as well as meeting seasoned experts and world-famous champions, Tom discovered there’s more to gurning than pulling faces.
In 2015, Tom won the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and was also a BBC Radio New Comedy Award finalist, and his 2018 Edinburgh show was nominated for the Amused Moose Comedy Award.
He generated a huge buzz following his Edinburgh Fringe Show, Tom Little Makes A Triumphant Return to Stand Up, which was a sell-out success.
His many online sketch videos for comedy brands have won impressive viewer numbers. His video All over the Shop on GetPulped’s YouTube channel amassed 2.6 million views.
