
Paintings by Percy Kelly are expected to be the highest selling lots in Mitchells Antiques & Fine Art Sale.
The sale takes place from September 24 to September 26, which also includes artwork by John Piper RA among the highlights.
An oil on board painting by Percy Kelly (1918-1993), Red Bridge Near Aspatria, measuring 21cm x 26cm in a gilt frame has an estimate of £4,000 to £6,000 and is one of four Percy Kelly works in this sale.
An abstract oil and collage on card from 1962/63 by John Piper RA (1903-92) features an early study for The Piper Building Murals in London.
Measuring 10.5cm x 12.5cm in a frame of 36cm x 35cm, the artwork was a gift from the artist to P Manzareli and is expected to sell for £1,500 to £2,500.

Other artworks include an Edward Horace Thompson (1879-1949) watercolour of Crummock and Buttermere measuring 29.5cm x 44cm which should sell for £250 to £350.

A Marie Scott acrylic on paper abstract measuring 19.5cm x 13cm, framed and mounted, with a Castlegate House Gallery label to the rear estimated at £80 to £120.

Highlights among the jewellery include an 18ct gold diamond and ruby floral spray brooch estimated at £350 to £450.

Antique furniture includes a William IV well figured rosewood centre table with a valuation of £450 to £600 and a mid-century Nathan teak sideboard, fitted with cupboards and drawers which should make £250 to £350.

The sale also includes a 19th century monocular microscope by H Crouch 57 London Wall London in a mahogany case, with some accessories and complete with three boxes containing specimen slides, which is expected to sell for £200 to £300 and is one of two microscopes in the sale.

Other unusual lots up for auction are a vintage Mont Blanc Hemingway fountain pen valued at £600 to £800 and a large Chinese hardstone horse figure measuring 56cm in height with an estimate of £150 to £250

Day two of the sale on Thursday September 25 will include paintings, drawings & prints, objects of art, collectors’ items, metalware and textiles.
Day three of the sale on Friday September 26 will include table boxes, wall clocks, barometers & mirrors, furniture, longcase clocks, dining tables and chairs.

Lots are on view in the saleroom from Sunday September 21 from 11am to 3pm, Monday September 22 and Tuesday September 23, 10am to 5pm and throughout each sale day.
