Cleator Moor Celtic finally got the reward their latest displays in the West Lancashire League have deserved.
Denied victories by late equalisers the Hoops saw it through this time to record a fine 2-1 win at Burscough Richmond.
They held a 2-0 lead at half-time and their hosts couldn’t score until added time and the Cumbrians were able to hold out for the final whistle.
They were thoroughly deserving of the win which lifted them to 12th in the table.
They got off to a great start with a goal on six minutes when Owen Charlton delivered a good cross for Leo Brennan to fire home.
Then on 33 minutes a free kick on the edge of the area was thumped home by James Bell on his seasonal first appearance.
Jordan Lorde pulled one back for the hosts in stoppage time.
You can hear what manager Gareth Agnew thought about the performance below:
Millom’s game at Rossendale was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch while Milnthorpe Corinthians did not have a scheduled fixture.
Whitehaven travelled to Poulton and came back with a very good point from a 3-3 draw.
Manager Jon Karl Benson has seen his side unable to hold onto leads and go under, but on this occasion they squared matters from being 3-1 behind.
Tyler Hallam had given Poulton a 12th minute lead but Robbie Swinburne levelled from the penalty spot on 25 minutes.
Just before half-time Hallam scored his second to restore the home side’s lead.
It was looking grim for the visitors when Raedan Shirran made it 3-1 after 71 minutes, but in a gritty fight-back they regained parity.
George Frampton netted on 75 minutes and six minutes later Swinburn’s second from the penalty spot clinched a welcome point.
