A major search has been launched after reports of a person being spotted in the River Eden in Carlisle.
Police, the Coastguard helicopter and rescue teams, plus Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out the search following the report at around 12.40pm yesterday, Sunday September 21.
It was reported that there was a possible sighting of a person in the river among fast-flowing debris in the Crosby on Eden area.
Cumbria police said yesterday afternoon: “A large area from the initial sighting spot has been covered by staff, with tactics including the use of drone technology used to search the river, which contains a large number of debris such as branches and logs following yesterday’s heavy rain.
“Nobody has reported anyone having gone into the water or having become in difficulty in the water.
“At this time no person has been found.”
People were warned they may have seen a larger than normal presence of emergency service personnel as a result.
