Carlisle City will look forward to continuing their progress in the Northern League when they host Thornaby tomorrow.
Dan Kirkup’s side won 1-0 at Birtley Town last Saturday to move to the fringes of the play-offs.
Mid-week results have seen them down to eighth, a couple of points behind Shildon who hold fifth.
But Thornaby are not enjoying a good season, currently lying next to bottom with only two wins on their record.
Kirkup will clearly stress the need to avoid complacency, especially as Thornaby lost 1-0 at home in the FA Vase last week to Division Two side Jarrow.
Match of the day in Northern League Division One could be Kendal Town’s home clash with Newcastle Blue Star.
The Mintcakes have to bounce back from a 5-1 battering at Fulwood Amateurs last week in the Vase.
Visitors Blue Star beat Marske 3-1 on Tuesday to go sixth in the table, one place and one point better off than Kendal.
Penrith sare the only Cumbrian side in the Northern League with a trip away tomorrow as they visit Crook Town.
Crook don’t do draws as they have four wins and eight defeats on their 12-match league record.
That puts them 16th, a point and four places behind the Bonnyblues.
In the North West Counties Division One North Holker Old Boys are in action tonight.
They have a tough trip in prospect to Premier Division side Yeuxton Villa in the first round of the Macron Cup.
But the Chorley side are only four points clear of the drop zone in the top flight while Holker are on the edge of the play-off zone in the League below.
Certainly Carlisle City boss Dan Kirkup will be interested in any information the Holker management can provide as the Sky Blues go to Yeuxton in the first round proper of the Vase.
In the Wearside League Windscale are due to start a run of home games when they host Durham Corinthians tomorrow.
It will be good to get back into action as Wednesday’s scheduled visitors Barnard Castle had to turn round at Penrith because of issues with their self drive van.
Manager Stephen Fawcett would have been without three of his players because of a virus but one or two of them might be ok to return tomorrow.
In the West Lancashire League Premier Division all four Cumbrian sides have home fixtures.
Pick of them is clearly Millom’s clash with unbeaten leaders Eagley.
In 11 games so far they have won nine and drawn the other two.
Millom made such a fine start to life in the top flight, it’s been disappointing that a poor sequence of results have seen them slide down from joint top to ninth.
In fact the other three Cumbrians play teams in the top six, so all have attractive but tough fixtures to deal with.
Reigning champions Tempest United visit bottom club Milnthorpe Corinthians; fourth in the table Lostock St. Gerard’s are at Whitehaven and Cleator Moor Celtic entertain Hurst Green who are sixth.
