
The opening round of the JJs Workington Pool League saw numerous in-house derby matches occur.
In the A league last year’s runners up Station Road A beat their C team 8-5 thanks to Mike Walker winning his singles frames.
Mossbay A returned to the A league to edge out Packhorse A with ever present talisman Scott Messenger leading the way. Nathan Campbell started and finished JJs C match against Cons Club B with impressive wins to lead his team to a 9-4 win.
Harrington Legion B are looking for back-to-back promotions and made a statement win against Seaton Royal Oak as C league leading player Lewis King ensured a 10-3 victory.
The Redhouse saw their A and B teams lock horns. It was the B team, led by Dan Hallam that set the tone for the evening as his team raced to a 4-0 lead.
This proved too much for the A team to overcome as Lewis Staughton clinched a 9-4 victory.
In other results the Miners overcome a 5-3 deficit to win 7-6 and Packhorse Pooligans made a great start earning a 8-5 victory.
Union Jack Club B showed no mercy to their A team with a 12-1 demolition to take an early lead in the C league. Mossbay B look like they’ll be mounting a promotion challenge as Dan Swinburn got their evening off to a winning start.
Vinnies tried to get back into the game but it was Mossbay that had all the answers to win 9-4.
Gary Blackwell edged a final frame decider as Washouse Miners defeated JJs E 7-6.
Finally newcomers Roundabout gave a good account of themselves but couldn’t prevent the Railway Club from earning a 8-5 win.
