
Cumbria’s Coastguard rescue teams were called out after a suspicious item was spotted on a West Cumbrian beach.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said it was called at around noon yesterday, Sunday September 29, after the object – thought to be ordnance – was discovered.
The team informed the army’s bomb disposal team and was able to get photographs of the object before it was covered by the incoming tide.
The teams returned at around 5pm to place a safety cordon around the object.
Its exact location has not been disclosed for safety reasons.
It will be dealt with today, Monday September 29, Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said.
