Tickets are now on sale for a magical Christmas adventure at a popular Lake District attraction.

This Christmas, visitors to Honister Slate Mine can expect a breathtaking journey deep beneath the fells as Santa’s Secret Grotto returns with an exciting new twist: underground sledging.

Hidden inside England’s last working slate mine, Honister’s Santa’s Grotto offers a unique Yuletide experience.

Families will follow twinkling tunnels, meet festive characters and enjoy a private meeting with Santa himself – all inside a real mountain.

And now, the adventure ends with a new sledging experience.

Gnash Baxter, mine manager, said: “We’ve worked hard to make 2025’s experience our most magical yet.

“The new sledging element is something truly special. We’ve created a safe but adventurous way for families to end their grotto journey on a high.

“This event is all about bringing people together through place, storytelling, and adventure. There’s nowhere else in the country that does Christmas quite like this.”

The Santa’s Grotto experience has grown since its launch in 2022 and Honister Slate Mine is advising people to book early as last year’s event sold out quickly.
