Emergency services were called out after two dinghies were spotted in potential trouble off the West Cumbrian coast.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard rescue teams and Workington RNLI were called after a 999 call was made today, Friday October 3.
The caller reported a concern for safety of the dinghies off the coast at Parton, near Whitehaven.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “With officers already in the immediate area, they were able to swiftly make contact with the first informant and confirm the area of interest.
“The first informant thought there may possibly be two dinghiess in difficulty, with only one then heading off underway to Whitehaven.
“A request was made for Workington Lifeboat to launch and assist with a search afloat.
“Meanwhile, Coastguard rescue officers undertook a shoreline search of all areas between Whitehaven and Parton, and took up local advantage points, with no persons found to be in need of assistance.
“There was one small fishing vessel which was operating nearby throughout the morning, but with no issues.
“After a confirmatory search by the lifeboat, and nothing of concern found, all assets were stood down.
“This was categorised as a false alarm with good intent, and we thank the first informant for raising their concerns. We believe the sighting to of been that of the fishing vessel operating in the area.”
