Police have issued a CCTV image as they investigate an incident which happened in Carlisle in August.

Cumbria police, which issued the image today, Tuesday October 7, said they had received reports of a man placing a black jerrycan on the doorstep of a home on Newtown Road at around 1.10am on Monday August 25.

He took a picture of the can and then ran away in the direction of the Cumberland Infirmary.

Police are investigating the incident as a threat to cause criminal damage.

The man was described as white, with facial hair and was wearing dark clothing with his hood up, black gloves and was carrying a purple JD Sports bag.

Officers would like to speak with the person pictured as part of the investigation.

Information relating to this investigation can be reported online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 75 of 25 August 2025 or by calling 101 and speaking to PC 3145 Carruthers.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
