A Lake District-based restaurant with rooms is enjoying a wave of awards success.

Pooley Bridge’s 1863 has retained its third AA Rosette for food and drink for a third year in a row, after recently also being named number one in the UK for a date night in the 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers Choice awards.

The third AA rosette puts 1863 into the top 10 per cent of restaurants listed in the AA Guide.

The success in achieving Rosettes is based on multiple visits to the restaurant by a team of inspectors who have a wealth of experience in assessing culinary excellence.

In the AA inspector’s report, the team were praised for offering a relaxed and welcoming environment and a warm approach to hospitality.

It also praised the restaurant’s prime ingredients, modern menus, technical skills and harmonious flavour combinations.

Head chef Phil Corrie said: “This has been a most welcome start to the Winter season. The response to the Trip Advisor award has been phenomenal. To now once again secure industry recognition at this level is truly heartening.

“These two awards bookend and validate the 1863 experience with happy diners and happy inspectors – that makes us, as a team, feel great!

“We’re now looking forward to busy festive season and hoping to welcome many more guests and diners to experience what we have to offer.”
