Plans have been put forward for a new access road to be created for Millom’s leisure facility.
Due to open next year, the leisure centre has been funded by the Millom Town Deal and will be in the Millom School campus.
Currently, vehicle access is via a single lane alongside the Millom Hub, next to the playing fields.
The planning application, from Cumberland Council, is for a new road from Salthouse Road to the centre for disabled access and maintenance.
The existing single lane will be used by pedestrians only and customers of the new facility will be asked to park at the main car park and walk up it to the centre.
The new activity and leisure facility is one of four projects that make up the Millom Town Deal which secured £20.6m from the Government’s Town’s Fund alongside match funding.
The Copeland Community Fund has provided £1 million towards the project and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has provided a £3.1 million grant.
Funding has also been provided by South Copeland GDF Community Partnership, CGP, Millom School and Millom Town Council.
The Cumberland Council facility is due to open in autumn next year.
