Overnight and weekend closures are planned for a Carlisle road as part of work on the city’s southern relief road.
Contractors will return to Ivegill Road from this Saturday to complete essential work.
Cumberland Council said the closures had been timed to coincide with half term, plus evenings and weekends to minimise disruption to Stoneraise School and local people.
The programme of work, on Ivegill Road between Durdar and Stoneraise School, is as follows:
- October 25 to November 2: During half-term, Ivegill Road will close. This will allow the contractor to undertake the remaining drainage work that crosses the existing carriageway. Cumberland Council said it could not be completed without more than an overnight or weekend road closure.
- November 3 to November 7: Ivegill Road will be open to traffic 7am to 7pm, but traffic lights will be in place. From 7pm to 7am, Ivegill Road will close to complete the drainage work.
- November 8 to November 9: Ivegill Road will close to install the remaining fencing.
- November 10 to November 14: Ivegill Road will be open to traffic 7am to 7pm, but traffic lights will be in place. From 7pm to 7am, Ivegill Road will close to complete the surfacing of the road and the shared use path.
- November 15 to November 16: Over the weekend, Ivegill Road will close to complete earthworks and landscaping.
Cumberland Council said the schedule may change depending on the weather, especially for drainage and surfacing work which is affected by rain and temperature.
It said any extra closures needed would be shared as soon as they were confirmed.
