Two care workers from Barrow have been shortlisted for national awards.
Ashleigh Harvey and Joy Turnbull work for Lakeland Care and have been nominated for the National Care Awards 2025.
Ashleigh, finalist in the Domiciliary Carer of the Year category, has progressed from carer to care supervisor at the firm.
Lakeland Care said: “She combines day-to-day leadership with advanced training in dementia, safeguarding, medication, end-of-life, bereavement support and Oliver McGowan LD & autism training.
“She’s known for her person-centred approach, particularly in complex and end-of-life care, and for mentoring new carers to raise standards across the service.”
Joy has been nominated for the Sara Berrio Care Champion Award, which recognises those who make a difference to others around them and inspire people through their kindness and commitment.
Lakeland Care said: “Joy is a care & support worker whose warmth, reliability and advocacy are widely praised by families.
“She consistently goes above and beyond—supporting clients and relatives, reducing loneliness, and championing community life.”
Marge Smyth, CEO of Lakeland Care, said: “We’re so proud of Joy and Ashleigh. Being shortlisted in two categories at a national level is a massive achievement for our small, employee-owned team here in Barrow. It shows the rest of the country the standard of care being delivered in our community every single day.”
Both were congratulated recently by Barrow & Furness MP Michelle Scrogham, who met them at Lakeland Care’s offices to mark their achievements and wish them luck ahead of the London event.
Mrs Scrogham said: “Joy and Ashleigh are shining examples of dedication in social care. It’s fantastic to see Barrow carers recognised on a national stage – they make our area proud.”
The awards will be held in London next month.
