A man has been jailed for stalking after he contacted his victim up to 70 times day when he was banned from doing so.
Carlisle Crown Court sentenced Paul Murray, 27, of Rowe Terrance, Workington, to nine months in prison.
The court heard that a stalking protection order was enforced on June 25 against Murray.
An order bans the person from doing certain things such as contact the victim, which if breached is a criminal offence.
At the start of July, Murray contacted the victim multiple times by phone calls and social media.
The contact was sometimes up to 70 times a day.
Murray made multiple threats towards the victim in the lead up to his arrest on July 18, causing the victim fear.
PC Rachel Leach, of Cumberland Safeguarding team, said “Murray continued to contact the victim despite being subject to a stalking protection order.
“His behaviour was prolific with him contacting the victim multiple times a day, asking people to contact them on his behalf and making threats towards the victim.
“Offences of this nature have like in this case have a massive impact on the victim, we would encourage anyone victim of offences of this nature to report it to us.”
