Cumbrian community hub looking for workshop leaders to turn trash into treasure

Creative makers, artists, and educators to help turn ‘trash into treasure’ at Revive.

Revive will open in Mirehouse in Whitehaven in early 2026, providing a place for the community to donate furniture and household items for sale or free distribution to those in need.

The facility also aims to reduce landfill waste, boost local skills, and tackle social isolation and inequalities.

One of the project’s key aims is to build a thriving circular economy in West Cumbria, keeping materials in use, reducing landfill, and helping local people gain skills, confidence, and connection.

The initiative based at the former Focus Scaffolding site on Meadow Road has already secured over £800,000 in funding from Well Whitehaven and Cumberland Council, paving the way for a vibrant space dedicated to reuse, repair, and hands-on learning.

“Revive is about creativity, skills, environment, and community,” said Jordan Mattinson, operations manager at Revive.

“We’re looking for workshop leaders who can inspire people to turn offcuts, pallets, textiles, and pre-loved furniture into something they’re proud to take home, all while helping the planet.

“Revive forms part of BEC’s mission to deliver socially and environmentally impactful developments that help our community thrive.”

Social impact property developer BEC is behind the project and wants proposals from makers, craftspeople, tutors, and tradespeople to deliver inclusive and engaging workshops.

Sessions might explore furniture repair and upcycling, textile art and visible mending, pallet projects, DIY skills, or creative reuse, anything that encourages participants to see the potential in reclaimed materials.

Workshop leaders will receive paid opportunities, access to a fully equipped workspace, reclaimed materials, and full marketing and ticketing support. Volunteers and technicians will also be on hand to help deliver sessions in an inclusive, community-led environment.

Interested creatives should submit a short proposal outlining their craft, workshop idea, and availability by getting in touch with BEC via discoverbec.com/developments/revive
