An already shortened fixture list for Saturday has grown shorter through clubs conceding Cup ties.
The RFU’s Community Cup has suffered badly since its conception and last Saturday’s latest round of matches saw just 79 out of 151 games being played.
That’s a completion rate of just 51% and is supposed to be an RFU Flagship competition.
Two games scheduled for October 18 in Cumbria – St Benedict’s v Windermere and Cockermouth v Creighton were both cancelled because the away sides couldn’t find enough players.
Millom v Stockton was put back a week by agreement but now the South Cumbrians have conceded because they can’t field a team.
Possibly more disappointing from a county perspective has been the cancellation of this Saturday’s Cumbria Cup game between Penrith and Aspatria.
The Black Reds have conceded as they aren’t able to field a front row.
One Cumbria Cup-tie will go ahead at Pennine Park where Wigton are the visitors.
It’s a clash of Regional 2 North rivals and Cieran Trainor will be the man in the middle.
There is a rearranged Regional 2 game at Davidson Park where Keswick will entertain Morpeth.
Keswick are going really well in the league and this is the game that was called off on the weekend of Storm Amy.
Keswick lie second in the table and will be keen to make inroads to the lead of unbeaten Northern at the top.
Simon Barker has been appointed referee.
Keswick, however, have 33 players unavailable this weekend through one reason or another and as a result have had to cry off their Counties 1 Cumbria game at Ambleside.
The only two other games on Saturday are a NOWIRUL Primo Drinks Trophy game between Kirkby Lonsdale Development and Aspull Development (Danny Airey) and a CANDY Division Two South game between Upper Eden 2nds and Darlington 2nds (Mike Pate).
