Windscale made progress in the Wearside League’s Shipowners Cup with a penalty shoot out win.
But it was a close-run thing as the Atoms only took it to a spot-kick decider with a 94th minute equaliser for a 2-2 draw.
Joe Atkinson fired in the late leveller – the second time the hosts had to come from behind to stay in the contest.
It was a welcome win for Windscale who have been struggling to find their form of late.
Willington have been going well in the League and have recruited some quality players.
Andy O’Neill had given Willington the lead on 42 minutes when he finished clinically after being put through one-on-one.
On the hour Owen Woodburn, making his debut after signing from Whitehaven, marked his arrival with a well-taken equaliser.
Windscale defended well and were a bit unfortunate with a bounce of the ball that led to Sam Green firing the visitors back in front on 79 minutes.
It was looking like being the winner until Atkinson popped up with his late equaliser.
The Atoms were flawless in the penalty shoot-out, going first and scoring all five.
Willington missed with their third, crashing it against the crossbar, so the Atoms went through 5-3.
