Grapes A enjoyed a 14-2 success in the cup to make progress.

The second leg of the Universal Tanker Solutions Handicap Knockout first round concluded last week.

Teams were involved in the two-legged matches with 14 the magical frame number to make progress.

JJ’s A and Pack Horse A went into their second leg all square at 7-7 and when Karl Newton and Lewis Tilley made it 11-11 it was all to play for.

In the last doubles Wayne Hardy and Stan Fletcher edged JJ’s ahead for the rest of their team to capitalise on as they won the last three singles with Shaun Ayre capping off a 14-11 victory.

The Harrington Legion teams progressed into the second round as Alan McLeod won the only frame needed for the A team to progress 14-2 over Seaton Royal Oak and the Legion B team were awarded a walk-over against Station Road B.

With Red House B and The Miners tied at 7-7 going into the second leg it was anyone’s guess who would progress especially when Ashley Hudson put the Miners 9-8 ahead.

Red House potter Gaz Hunter levelled the match for his team to dominate the next three frames.

Miners did pull one back but couldn’t prevent Mark Harding finishing off the match to give Redhouse A a 14-10 victory.

The Grapes teams had mixed fortunes as the A team’s Barry Graham won the single frame needed to move into the next round with a 14-2 win over the Roundabout.

Unfortunately for the B team they couldn’t overcome their 10-5 first leg deficit as Lee Sandwith and Michael Craig ensured JJ’s B progressed 14-8.

Station Road’s A and C teams enjoyed a winning evening as the A team’s Steven Lowery helped ensure a 14-9 victory over the Wash House Miners. Station Road C overcame an 8-6 deficit to beat the Pack Horse Pooligans 14-10 as Steven Potts won both his singles frames.

John Metherell ensured Moss Bay A made the second round as his frame win gave them a 14-5 victory against JJ’s D.

Vinnies Pru got their fixture off to a winning start that saw them defeat Union Jack Club B 14-7.

Finally Bees Knees enjoyed success over the Railway Club with help from Phillip Lloyd as they won 14-10.
