Evri apologises after parcels go missing in West Cumbria

A leading delivery firm has apologised over missing parcels in West Cumbria.

People living in Egremont, Cleator Moor, Whitehaven and Workington, have reported packages going missing or turning up with several others at random addresses.

Cumbria Police have also received a report of an abandoned Evri courier parcel bag found in Egremont earlier this week, full of empty and torn open packages.

The bag has since been retrieved by Evri and officers said the firm is investigating the incident.

One customer, living in Egremont, told Cumbria Crack that an expensive parcel he ordered for Christmas has been missing for over seven days.

He added that dozens of people in the community have experienced similar problems.

He said: “I’m really worried about it, I’m pretty sure I’m never going to get my parcel now, especially after hearing that parcels have been turning up on random doorsteps.

“I’ve also seen pictures of the empty bag that was found, it’s really frustrating as that’s supposed to be a secure bag, so how it’s ended up discarded is shocking, I keep thinking what if my parcel was in that bag?

“Evri also ask you to get in touch with the sender if you haven’t heard about your parcel in over seven days, but I’ve ordered two electronics from overseas on pre-order, so I can’t do that. It’s a nightmare.

“So many people have been talking and posting about it, I’ve seen people talking about multiple parcels being dumped in gardens and on doorsteps and people getting pictures of their parcels at random addresses.

“We actually got a parcel handed to us that was for the complete wrong address and I had to walk and hand it back to this family.

“The first thing they said to me was ‘is it an Evri parcel’ because they’d had a few turn up at random addresses over a few weeks.”

Evri also said there is no backlog of parcels in the area.

A spokesman said: “Customers are at the heart of what we do and we’re very sorry that our service in the local area hasn’t met our high standards.

“We are working quickly to redeliver a small number of parcels which did not make it to the recipient.

“Anyone who needs help with their parcel should contact our customer service team for support.”
