Cumberland ARL chairman Peter Gilmour has been paying tribute to Workington Town forward Stevie Scholey.

Gilmour is delighted that a League Select squad has been chosen to play in the testimonial game at the Fibrus Community Stadium.

He told Cumbria Crack: “Stevie Scholey is a modern day Cumbria rugby league legend, and it’s a huge testament to him that the players invited to take part were hugely honoured to accept.

“The community team contains some established high quality amateur players like Emerson Allen who will captain the team and Liam Williamson.

“The exciting part is that it’ll also showcase the next generation of talent and players like Jaiden Tallantire, Jackson Smith, Xenden Callendar and Dillon Scott among others are lads with big futures and this game gives them the ideal platform to showcase their talents.

“The whole group are really excited to be part of the occasion and to show what they can do.

“It would be fantastic to see a big crowd down at the game because if anyone deserves it then it’s Stevie who’s a fantastic player, and above all a great role model for any player to aspire to be.”

The Cumberland ARL Select will be against a Workington Town squad made up of players Stevie has played with over the years, including former skipper Jarrad Stack who has been at Barrow for the last six years.

Dan Rooney, who toured South Africa with Stevie as part of the BARLA Under-19s, is also digging out his boots.

Sam Forrester and Scott Akehurst, who signed for Town under Phil Veivers, at the same time as Stevie, are also included.

It’s a 6.30pm kick-off but the gates open at 4pm and the action begins at 4.30pm with a special Masters match between the Maryport Chairman’s X111 and the Maryport Captain’s X111.

Big Grin will be providing music and entertainment from 5.30pm and kick-off.

Ben Akehurst is providing the musical entertainment in the marquee after the game and in between there will be a special shirt auction.

The squads are:
