Workington have signed a new professional for next season – their first since 2022.
The Valentine Ground club, who have been using overseas amateurs in recent seasons, have recruited Sri Lankan all rounder Vishva Peiris, who is also known as Chathuranga.
He has played in the UK for the last four years and the left-handed top order batsman and off-spinner who can also keep wicket, has a fine record.
His first two years were spent in the Staffordshire League where he amassed 1,135 runs in his first season (avge 47.29) and took 39 wickets (16.13).
Still with the Caverswall club in 2023 he made 671 runs (avge 27.96) and took 24 wickets (30.13).
He had his best season in 2024 when he moved to the Ashton club in the Greater Manchester League, hitting 1,492 runs (49.73) and took 55 wickets (12.04). Last season, still at Ashton he made 793 runs (34.48) and took 48 wickets (16.00).
The 27-year-old has represented Sri Lanka at Under-19s and Under-23s level and in domestic cricket plays for the Chilaw Marians club.
He is also a qualified ECB Core coach.
