Towards the end of a busy week Whitehaven have announced a significant further re-signing in hooker Ellison Holgate.
The 25-year-old former Wath Brow amateur has signed a new contract which will keep him at the Ortus Rec until the end of the 2027 season.
Holgate has had an impressive opening season in the professional game scoring nine tries in 18 appearances, making his debut in the club’s Challenge Cup meeting with Warrington.
He made the number nine shirt his own starting at hooker in 11 of the final 12 games of the campaign.
Holgate also picked up two awards at the club’s end of season presentation evening being presented with the Pep Graham Memorial Award and Coaches Player of the Year.
Head coach Anthony Murray said: “After making the step-up from the community game, Ellison has shown just how capable he is at this level.
“He had an outstanding debut season and really announced himself as a professional player. His attitude, work ethic, and natural ability have all stood out, and it’s clear he has a very bright future ahead of him.
“There are no limits to how far he can go in the game, and we’re delighted he’s chosen to continue his journey with us.”
