Help make Christmas magical for Cumbrian families

A new campaign has been launched to help make Christmas magical for survivors and families facing hardship across Cumbria.

More than 100 of The Freedom Projects families in the region are expected to wake up on Christmas morning without presents or festive food.

Set up in 1997, The Freedom Project works with victims, perpetrators and children suffering from trauma and effects of domestic and sexual abuse.

It provides a free, family-based approach, with emotional and practical support, one-to-one counselling and group work with the ultimate aim of trying to break the cycle of abuse, helping people recover and move on with their lives.

The Freedom Project’s annual appeal invites people and businesses to help change that, bringing comfort, joy, and dignity to those who need it most.

How to get involved:

  • Buy a gift from the Freedom Project’s children’s Amazon Wishlist
  • Donate towards festive food for families who might otherwise go without
  • Host a Christmas Jumper Day to raise funds and awareness

In 2026, The Freedom Project is inviting businesses to make a lasting impact by offering ad hoc support or choosing it as their charity of the year.
