After a week of heavy rainfall and flooding around the county, Cockermouth were pleased to be able to host the third round of the women and girls touch rugby festivals.
Their first game was against Keswick and having been slow starters in many previous festivals, the Cockermouth players were determined to avoid this happening again.
Keswick have improved in recent weeks and the game started off with both teams scoring tries in the first half.
Both teams emptied their bench at half time to give every player a run out. Cockermouth finished the game the stronger and won 7-3.
They were then against Silloth who had beaten Cockermouth in their two fixtures this season.
This time Cockermouth worked hard in defence especially on the edges where Silloth had regularly on previous occasions.
In attack Cockermouth drove up the middle to gain yards and then looked to utilise their own quick wingers. This enabled them to register a 4-2 win.

The third game was against Wigton when both teams proved dangerous with ball in hand.
Wigton were good with player movement to create spaces while Cockermouth utilised direct running, quick play of the ball, and pace out wide.
It proved to be an end-to-end game which ended in an exciting 8-8 draw.
The final game was against Arlecdon and this was another tight affair. Both teams worked hard in defence with good line speed and scrambling back to stop breaks becoming tries.

Both teams will ponder on chances missed, which could have won them the game as it finished in a 3-3 draw.
Aside from the continued improvement of the team, pleasing points for Cockermouth included the fact that the team had five age grade players in their squad of 13 players.
The most difficult decision was the Cockermouth player of the festival.
It went to Claudia Healy, a classy player who always has great footwork and time on the ball to bring the best out of the players around her.
The next round of the festival series is being staged by Arlecdon.
