Talented teenager Ben Pearce has signed a new two-year deal with Whitehaven which will see him stay with his hometown club until the end of the 2028 season.
Second rower Pearce joined the club ahead of this season and so far has made 17 appearances, with his last 16 coming in the starting line-up after making his debut off the bench in the season’s opening game against Sheffield Eagles.
The 19-year-old former Hensingham amateur has scored four tries, including three in his last three games, and celebrated being named in the Championship team of the month back in April.
Pearce said: “It’s good being down here as it’s my hometown (club) which every kid’s dream of when you want to play rugby.
“All the lads are good lads, and the same with Newts, Gus and all of the staff. It’s a welcoming environment and we want to keep building as a team and pushing on each year.”
Pearce spent time in his younger days with Academy set-ups at Newcastle and Warrington.
Pearce is the first of the 2026 squad to commit their future to the club but there are more announcements to come in the coming weeks as the club presses on with preparations for the 2027 campaign and beyond.
