A small team of fundraisers from West Cumbria has raised thousands of pounds for good causes — including over £13,000 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria since 2021.
The group, led by Maria Jolly, first came together during the 2020 lockdown to help charities struggling through difficult times.
Their community spirit has continued ever since, with the team raising vital funds for organisations such as The British Heart Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Society, and Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
They have organised charity nights at the Trades Hall in Workington, bingo sessions every other week at the town’s Crafty Workshop, as well as raffles and stalls at local community events.
Maria, of Workington said: “The group is passionate about making a difference and raising money for charities is something we all truly enjoy.
“We understand that times are tough and people don’t always have as much to give, but the services provided by Hospice at Home West Cumbria are vital to our community.
“We like to help where we can, and we have reached our goal with presenting them with another £5,000 cheque by the end of 2025, and we already have ideas and plans pencilled in for next year’s fundraising goal.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Lesley and Mike Edmondson from The Crafty Workshop in Workington, Howard Sandham, W Gourley Pharmacy, Carla and Michael Quirk from ETL, and every individual and business who has supported us. We couldn’t have done it without you all.”
Gemma Bell, income generation team leader at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “We are so grateful to Maria, the fundraisers, and everyone in the community who gets involved and helps raise funds for the charity.
“Maria’s passion to make a difference is truly inspiring, and the team is really making an impact in helping us to continue to support patients and families in West Cumbria during the most difficult of times.”
